The Desires of Our Heart

His word says that when we delight in him, he will give us the desires of our heart. Why is this? Well I believe it is first of all set up this way because he is like us as far as our human nature, he wants us to love him because he loves us. He created us for fellowship and also so that there would be a creation that would truly “get” him. He wanted people to think like he does so that we can truly, and deeply appreciate the depth of his love and goodness on a real level. Don’t we want this ourselves? We all crave that lover who truly “gets” us, we all truly want to be seen as we are in the eyes of love and truth, we all crave to be appreciated and understood. This is because we are made in his image. He is a jealous God and he wants us to worship him. There is no hidden agenda here he makes his will perfectly clear. We are to have no other God before him. He wants us to praise him first and love him with all our hearts, soul and strength. This leads me to the second point as to why he grants us the desire of our hearts when we delight in him. The first point was that he grants us the desires of our hearts when we delight in him because he wants to be loved and appreciated, and this makes him happy to reward and give us our desires in return when we do. The second reason why is because he loves us, and he understands what is best for us. When we seek him first, and put our own personal will to death and our flesh desires that are contrary to his will to death by his grace, then we put ourselves in the center of his will. His will for us is his plan for ours lives. He has a plan to bless each of us with the one perfect thing that will truly make us happy, and all else is counterfeit. So when we delight in him, this means that we are ready to take all the steps we need to take that will put us in the Garden of Eden. Next, I want to talk about the desires of our heart. We have certain desires that are not evil, but rather he has placed here for our direction and for our pleasure. Sometimes the direction we need to seek is that which is in line with the desire of our heart. It is said that the heart is deceptive and shouldn’t be followed, I believe that we should always filter our heart desires with where he is leading us and what our conscience says. However, we/I neglect this part of ourselves and oftentimes resist it in the name of obedience and holiness, whereas I am being taught to consider my inward desires. Desires are not always evil. He is showing me that I need to connect with my inner desires, listen to them, and in so he will lead me into his perfect will as I am seeking his direction. He leads us by the desires of our hearts. Amen. You are good, so so good heavenly father. Amen
